This Privacy Policy explains how GoodSeat ("GoodSeat", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "Service"). 1Who we are

GoodSeat is a marketplace that lets checked-in airline passengers exchange seats and connect with other travelers on the same flight. To provide those features we process personal information as the data controller. If you have questions, contact us using the details in Section 13.

2Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information, most of which you provide directly when you create an account, complete your profile, check in to a flight, or make an exchange.

3How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the Service: verify flights, match passengers, list and complete seat exchanges, and run the in-app wallet.
  • Process payments, hold funds until an exchange is complete, and pay out sellers.
  • Send you transactional and safety notifications (for example, a new message, a completed purchase, or a required app update).
  • Keep the community safe: detect fraud, review reports, and enforce our Terms.
  • Provide customer support and respond to your requests.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.

We rely on the legal bases of performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, your consent (for example, precise location and push notifications), and compliance with law.

4How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the Service:

  • With other users. Your profile (name, photo, age, interests), seat listings, and the messages you send are visible to passengers you interact with on your flight.
  • Stripe (payment processing). Card and payment data are processed by Stripe under its own privacy policy.
  • Google Firebase (push notifications and app services) and our real-time messaging infrastructure, to deliver notifications and chat.
  • Service providers such as hosting and analytics, acting on our instructions under confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal and safety. Where required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of GoodSeat, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

5Payments

Payments for seat exchanges are processed by Stripe. When you pay, your card details are sent directly to Stripe and are not stored on our servers. We retain a record of the transaction (amount, status, and our commission) to operate the marketplace and wallet. If you sell a seat, the payout bank details you provide are stored in encrypted form and used only to pay you.

6Location data

GoodSeat uses your device's location only while you are using the app, and only to confirm that you are physically at a supported airport before you add a flight. We request the "while in use" permission and do not track your location in the background. You can decline or revoke location access in your device settings at any time; some check-in features may then be unavailable.

7Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can:

  • Edit your profile and privacy settings, including whether you are discoverable, inside the app.
  • Turn push notifications and location access on or off in your device settings.
  • Delete your account (see Section 8).
  • Contact us to exercise any privacy right (Section 13). We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

8Account deletion and data retention

How to delete your account. In the app, open Profile → Settings → Delete account and confirm. You can also request deletion by emailing support@goodseat.app from your account email address. We will verify your request and delete your account.

When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your profile, photos, verification documents, and personal identifiers. We may retain a limited amount of information where we are legally required to (for example, transaction and tax records), to resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce our Terms. Retained records are kept only for as long as necessary and are then deleted or anonymized. Content you shared with other users, such as chat messages they received, may remain visible to them.

9Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and encryption at rest for sensitive fields such as payout account details. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your password confidential and notify us of any unauthorized use.

10International data transfers

We and our service providers may process your information in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect it in line with applicable law.

11Children's privacy

GoodSeat is not intended for children. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account and use the Service. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
